business. Win Every Day

It’s 2010. If you are not doing everything you can every day to win, you will lose. What, did you think this was a picnic? So “get it in” where you can fit it in every day, whether thats with school, a student organization, job applications, playing a sport, being a soldier, working for the federal government, working at a restaurant, working as a bartender, working at a zoo, working as a teacher, being a musician, working for a non-profit organization, working in a relationship, being a good mom, being a good dad, being a good coach, you get the point.

Today, globalization is like the global warming of competition in almost every industry. If you work in the private sector like me or in a startup company specifically, you need to embrace the basic training mentality of our soldier friends. You should be eating, drinking, sleeping, and even breathing your business, at least until you get it off the ground, but even then you have to do what it takes to win. Why wait to win later when you can win now?

I have been fortunate to get to know and learn from some of you who are doing what it takes to win in many different areas. Some of you are in the NFL now because of your hard work, (One of you already intercepted a pass from Peyton Manning). One of you has been a top 10 NCAA College basketball player for the last four years. One of you is Mrs. Colombia, one is Mrs. Virginia (Mrs. USA next week i hope). One of you is a musical celebrity in Washington D.C. and this is only the beginning for you ;)   One of you is soaring in his career working with an awesome Web Design company. One of you is an extremely successful movie producer. One of you has her own cooking show. Some of you are happily married. Some of you have your dream job because of your hard work.  One of you is serving herself by serving others less fortunate in the Dominican Republic.  Finally and most importantly, many of you are fighting for our country just so that we can have the ability to wake up every day and even have the chance to win.

This is just a message to tell those of you who are already rockin, keep up the good work; and to those who are struggling, you are not alone, but try to step your game up (i admit i need to step my game up too) and do what it takes to win because this “ain’t no picnic;” its actually your wake-up call from your competitors saying, “we’re already awake ;)

business. Poll. Small Businesses that provide health benefits

business. Don’t leave the house, your job is Virtual.

Internships, temporary jobs, careers. All conducted from the computer at home. It’s insane how many jobs are online now. Especially all of those basic clerical jobs we used to do in the office. Marketing is another big field in which internships and jobs are increasingly only virtual. There are many internships out there who just want you spread a company brand through social media like Facebook and Twitter. There are so many websites and search engines providing information on these type of jobs.

So, if you really don’t want to leave the house, the possibility of your wish coming true is huge and getting bigger each year. Why? Well, first, any business that wants to be successful in the digital age needs to have an online presence. It’s unavoidable. Furthermore, in these economic times, businesses are forced to explore other ways of lowering production costs. They are finding that a good way to do this is by letting you work from home. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, you should definitely look into it. Just type in terms like Virtual Assistant, Virtual Internship, or Virtual Career into a search engine, and you will get back a lot of interesting opportunities.

business. Buying Black. Self-help economics? Is it right?

Perspective. The goal of this post it to give you a different perspective. Please try to look at it from the standpoint of the individuals featured in this post before you form your own informed opinion. I want you to think about the cause of this more than the effect.

John and Maggie Anderson, an upper-class African American couple from Chicago, are embarking on an unique economic journey of what they call “empowerment.” They are “publicly pledging” to live one complete year, only buying goods and services sold by African American businesses. Their goal is to empower their local African American community by supporting their community’s black businesses. It’s not a mission, as John has stated, to get people to buy things based on race. Rather, he says, it’s about realizing a “higher sense of duty to support black businesses that are investing in the community.”

I don’t know if you knew what I meant  at the beginning when I said “cause of this.” Think about what the Andersons said about “serving a community that has been under-served.” There is in fact a long history in this country of a community that has been under-served. The contrary cannot be argued. However, whether  or not this proposed pledge of so-called “self-help economics” is a right course for resolving this issue is the question I will leave you with. Is it justified? It’s easy to make a judgement on this from your own perspective, but I really want you to look at this idea of business community development from the perspective of it’s creators. Is it race development or business community development? Can this idea work? If it can, is it worth it ethically? What do you think? That’s what I really want to know. Please comment.

business. Got an Ace of Jumping Jacks, millions of dollars

Phil Black, former military dude and exercise coach, loves to play cards and exercise… and to put the two activities together every once in a while to make $4.7 million in one year. He made decks of cards showing exercise routines, and now sells them on the internet for about twenty bucks each. So, yea, we should all be able to get rich right?  For kicks, think about whether you could take two things that interest you, put them together, and make a money bag or at least a peanut butter and jelly sandwich… Here, I’ll get us started: I like for the car to always look washed and clean, and I like delivery more than digiorno, BAM! Delivery Carwashes. Your turn.
